Hot Work
Hot work activities may be carried out on ships subject to the following requirements. The work must be performed in strict accordance with the latest edition of all applicable codes, standards, acts, and regulations, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
- Canada Labour Code.
- CAN/CSA – W 117.2-M87 Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes.
- Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Compressed Gas Regulations.
- Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Canada Confined Spaces Regulations.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS).
- Port Authorities Operations Regulations.
First aid and firefighting equipment must be available at the work area and ready for immediate use. A fire watch must be maintained at the workplace during the hot work activities to ensure safety. No hot work is to take place while fueling operations are occurring or if flammable liquids, solids, or gases are present in the area. The Harbour Master must be notified once the work is completed. A risk assessment must be completed before any work begins.
